The department of Savoie

History has a special name for the people of this department with which they are called, the Savoyards. The savoy is part of the region of Rhone Alps and borders the departments of Haute Savoie, Haute Alps, Isere and the Italian.

The department of Savoie (73) is different from the department of Haute Savoie.

There are two major rivers through this department, the isere and the Bow.

Places to visit :

The most importants places to visit in this department are  first the Lake Bourget, which is touted to be the largest lake of glacial origin in the whole country. Because of this, the Lake is forever cold and chilly with the water being fresh always.
Lake Aiguebelette is another lake that is supposed to be free of the worse effects of pollution, since motor boating was banned here in 1976. The major natural attractions are the mountains of Bauges, Chartreuse, and Massif de la Vanoise.

The climat in this region is vastly unpredictable since the climate depends on a variety of factors that of the ocean, mountains, Mediterranean, and continental. It has a much warmer climate than Haute Savoie.

Ski resorts of Tarentaise and Beaufortain are famous for hosting the winter Olympics of 1992 and are still famous for its skiing and attract tourists from the world over.

The development of Maurienne destroyed by the Second World War will add the next major boost. Also, there are  a number of spas in operation that are very famous, namely, the Aix-les-Bains and the Challes-les-Eaux.
